Documentary
Documentary sessions are designed to unfold slowly and naturally, lasting 2+ hours to give everyone time to settle in, relax, and simply be themselves. These sessions rely on natural light and a storytelling approach, allowing real moments and genuine emotion to emerge without the pressure of constant posing. They can also expand into day‑in‑the‑life sessions, offering a deeper look at the rhythms, routines, and small rituals that shape your everyday world.
I encourage choosing an activity—whether it’s a single focus or a series of small moments—to help create an environment that feels organic and true to your life. This might look like hiking a favorite trail, fishing, playing in the sand, baking together, reading, playing outside, blowing bubbles, splashing in water, or participating in a hobby you love. Activities give your hands something to do, your mind something to follow, and your story something to anchor itself to, making the images feel more natural and less staged.
While the heart of these sessions is candid, documentary storytelling, I’ll occasionally offer gentle direction—especially when it comes to using available light in the most beautiful way. Documentary sessions can take place anywhere, indoors or outdoors, as long as there’s a natural light source to work with.
These sessions are some of my absolute favorites because they allow me to lean fully into my photojournalism background and the aspects of photography I love most: observing, anticipating, and capturing the quiet, honest moments that make up a life.
Starting Price: $500
2 Hour sessions start at the above price, longer sessions will have custom pricing.
